Laura Ingalls Wilder's "Little House" books have left an indelible mark on readers; her name (and that of her series) continues to be a shorthand reference for a more self-sufficient life in present times. Alink's blog, Little House Living, relates her upbringing as a country girl in rural South Dakota to her married years living in a small farmhouse in the same area. With her own experiences as guide, Alink demonstrates that some aspects of rural living translate to any situation: creating your own made-from-scratch recipes and necessities such as shampoo, soaps, kids' craft items, and cleaning products. With chapters on Body and Beauty, Household, Children and Pets, and Make-Ahead Mixes, plus additional stories, Alink brings a bit of Wilder's life into the present. VERDICT This title will find a comfortable home in most library collections. Especially warranted where Wendy McClure's The Wilder Life has found popularity.--Kristi Chadwick, Massachusetts Lib.
