The Sivananda Yoga Center presents one of the best yoga guides for all levels of experience. Par for the course, the yogic principles of proper exercise, breathing, diet, and meditation are covered. What sets this companion apart, however, is its combination of thorough detail, accessibility, and attractiveness. Color photo spreads of models depict easy-to-follow classic poses as well as corrective poses for physical ailments. Accompanying anatomical drawings demonstrate how yoga affects and benefits the musculoskeletal and nervous systems. Extras include a series of 20-, 40-, or 60-minute sequences that enable readers to customize routines according to time and physical condition. The final chapter discusses proper nutrition and provides daily menus of more than 40 healthy recipes. VERDICTReaders are given all of the necessary information to start and maintain a home yoga practice. Best of all, the information is comprehensive without being overwhelming. The photographs are vibrant and beautifully displayed throughout. This is an excellent primer for adopting or enhancing a yoga lifestyle. Highly recommended.—Ajoke Kokodoko, Oakland P.L.
