It's safe to assume that many people agree with the sentiment expressed by psychologist Lee-Baggley. While humans are wired to seek pleasure and avoid pain, giving into those instincts in the areas of health and wellness are not always wise. Here, Lee-Baggley employs the tools of acceptance and commitment therapy to help readers discover how their values can motivate them to do the hard work of living healthfully and deal with emotions that get in the way of engaging in beneficial behaviors. The author also discusses how to recognize when others are supporting or hindering your well-being. A chapter on treating oneself with compassion and dealing with relapses rounds out the work. VERDICT A realistic read that will prod even the most stubborn fast-food eating couch potato to take action toward a healthier lifestyle.
