Prior to his current role as a college football and features reporter, Smith began his ESPN television career in the pits, covering NASCAR. In his book, Smith takes readers throughout his life and career, explaining how he wound up covering some of the greatest stories in sports. The author's personal tone hooks readers, his warm personality and captivating narrative intertwines lesser-known events and describes their impact on his life. Additionally, he includes anecdotes about his childhood, along with lessons he's learned, and excerpts from interviews from his Marty Smith's America podcast, often quoting lyrics from influential songs. VERDICT A personal, at times deeply moving, and breezy read.
