The Civil Rights Movement of the twentieth century celebrates the names of a few individuals, while acknow-ledging the efforts of unnamed masses. For this reason, the biography of the relatively unknown A.G. Gaston is an invaluable document, and this audio production is a historical gem. Gaston's niece and her daughter wrote the biography, so it seems natural that the narrator is female. Susan Spain delivers a sophisticated reading of the life of a man, the grandson of slaves, who used his amassed fortune of $130 million to help the African-American community attain their civil rights.
