Sports nutritionist Hartwig (The Whole30 Cookbook) gives followers of her Whole30 program—in which dieters eliminate certain foods such as legumes, sugar, and wheat for 30 days—even more meal options. Her meat-focused dishes include a Greek-style meatball salad and pan-seared steaks with chimichurri brussels slaw. They can be served alongside such starch substitutes as cauliflower grits. Hartwig includes contributions from bloggers: Brian Kavanagh, aka “the Sophisticated Caveman,” serves up a warm salmon and potato salad with a Dijon vinaigrette, while Dana Monsees (Real Food with Dana) offers Moroccan chicken and sweet potatoes prepared in the slow cooker. The dishes are well within the capabilities of most home cooks with limited skills or ingredients (there are entire chapters dedicated to dishes that call for just a sheet pan or skillet). Readers interested in preparing and serving healthier meals that come together quickly (even if they’re not participating in the Whole30 program) are sure to appreciate this thoughtful collection.
