Verdict: A gentle prescription for weight loss strongly recommended for public libraries and hospitals and clinics with consumer health collections. Background: Levine, director of the Active Life research team at the Mayo Clinic, and Yeager, a health and fitness writer, argue that the high rates of obesity in the United States stem from sedentary lifestyles that deviate from an evolutionary predisposition to move and forage. By thinking NEAT (the acronym for daily nonexercise movements, i.e., standing, bending, walking), readers can increase small movements to lose weight. Suggestions range from the simple (e.g., meeting with colleagues while walking around the building) to the more costly (purchasing a treadmill to place in front of the television). The authors offer an eight-week, daily schedule to assist readers.-Rachel M. Minkin, Okemos, MI
