Berger (emeritus, information sciences, Univ. of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Information Policy: A Framework for Evaluation and Policy Research) puts readers at ease with his beginning statement that managing finances is simply another way of organizing information. This book is divided into six major sections: financial statements, budgeting, revenue, expenditures, cost accounting in libraries, and marketing and community trust. Each chapter starts with a helpful "Why This Material Is Important" and "What You Should Learn from This Chapter" and concludes with a summary, exercise, conceptual questions, and notes if applicable. Short chapters make the information presented easier to digest while useful items such as a glossary and sample exercises add context, making it a valuable reference source for librarians. VERDICT While Berger's guide is written as a text for a semester-long course, any librarian or information professional who needs to learn about finance, whether in graduate school or working in the field, will find this book beneficial.--Jason L.
