Gr 9 Up-Each of these volumes features alphabetically arranged readings about topics that are similar in scope and coverage to those found in many extant encyclopedias. Readings are supplemented by numerous brief "Curriculum Context" sidebars that emphasize important points, ask critical thinking questions, describe the topic's place in history curricula, and/or identify possible questions about the material. However, the series fails to deliver on its curriculum-friendly premise as the readings do not provide in-depth coverage or develop analysis that would give readers a broader understanding that would allow them to address the very points the sidebars raise. This series is not noteworthy enough, either in premise or material, to merit its purchase.
