Let's Get This Party Started

Former child actor Frye (Happy Chaos: From Punky to Parenting and My Perfectly Imperfect Adventures in Between) presents ideas and inspiration for 21 generally and specifically themed children's parties. While Frye doesn't specify the age range for these parties, based on the photographs (provided by Frye's half-brother, former child star Peluce), they appear to be for elementary school-age children. Some parties are geared toward boys and girls; others are aimed at just girls. Each selection includes some food or drink options, activities, and a few crafts. The projects and recipes lack detailed instruction, but most are simple. Some projects require several hours to set or dry, but not all the parties are that intensive. The author doesn't discuss the cost of supplies or the availability of equipment or materials. Several of the ideas are quite charming, but others are more puzzling, such as the odd inclusion of mashed potatoes and fried chicken at a Christmas celebration. VERDICT Quality children's party books are in high demand, so this may be a welcome resource for families with young children, despite some flaws. Recommended.
