Dear Cary

Cannon describes her life with urbane and suave acting legend Cary Grant--from their romantic courtship to their loving marriage and the birth of their daughter. Ultimately, their shared life became bizarre and most unfortunate, if not tragic. Cannon projects a wistful and sometimes-distant tone in her narration, which works for the more romantic moments but not for the dramatic moments--which include descriptions of wild mood swings and experiments, at Grant's insistence, with LSD for the purpose of achieving enlightenment and a stronger marriage. Cannon, an accomplished actress in her own right, presents the story in a monotone and, with the exception of a few instances of controlling tears, seems emotionless in the face of highly dramatic material.
