This is no ordinary book of military history. In fact, it's considered a classic. First published in 1976, Keegan's history recounts the battles of Agincourt (1415), Waterloo (1815), and the Somme (1916) in an attempt to describe how man acts in terrifying and terrible circumstances. Robert Whitfield's reading matches the grace, intelligence, and pathos of Keegan's prose. Whitfield's voice is deep and serious, but not ponderous. He sounds like an English academic without sounding pedantic. Reading this work is no easy task. Keegan's prose is filled with lengthy sentences and dotted with foreign words and phrases, but Whitfield offers a flawless reading. M.L.C. (c) AudioFile 2002, Portland, Maine
