Cimperman, a naturopathic physician, outlines a detailed plan for prediabetics, those whose blood sugar levels are elevated but not yet at diabetic levels. The book is well written, with clear explanations of medical terminology for the layperson. There is little new here; the author has combined mainstream recommendations for diet, exercise, vitamin D intake, and smoking cessation with a detoxification program that she claims is necessary for the removal of environmental chemicals from the body. The program, designed to last from two to eight weeks, is restrictive and expensive. The list of allowed foods is short and mostly organic. Large amounts of water (up to 12 glasses a day for a 200-pound person) are required; program participants will spend much of their day in the bathroom. Multiple supplements are recommended with each meal, and anyone undertaking the program will have to purchase a water filter and a glucose meter if they don't already have them. Plans for detoxifying the home and several recipes are included.
