Hello Kitty isn't just for kids--legions of teens and adults enjoy clothing and accessories featuring the iconic white cat with the red bow. In her first book, Malaysia-based crafter and blogger Lee provides 24 patterns for popular Sanrio characters, ranging from the well-known (Hello Kitty and her family, Chococat, Badtz-Maru) to the less common (Sugarbunnies, Hangyodon, Tabo). Many of the characters include variations or accessories, making them perfect for children's creative play (or for adults to display on their desks at work). The directions are simple and straightforward and there's plenty of room for customization. Basic knowledge of crochet is assumed, although some amigurumi-specific techniques are described. Additional patterns and video tutorials are available on the publisher's website. VERDICT The combination of Hello Kitty (and other Sanrio favorites) and amigurumi seems so obvious--it's a wonder that this book wasn't published years ago. Lee's work could easily inspire devoted Sanriophiles to pick up a crochet hook.
