Gr 7 Up-Teens will think critically about current and historical events with the help of this media literacy-focused series. Each book features an anthology of New York Times articles on its subject's life, rise to fame, and impact. The volumes conclude with thoughtful questions that will let students and educators continue the conversation. That said, readers are presented with complex and somewhat conflicting information about current leaders, such as Donald J. Trump; additional resources may be needed to adequately address some of the events that go unmentioned in the books. Images are predominantly black-and-white, staying true to the series' newspaper column format, and each article stands on its own with little transition or analysis between segments. VERDICT A series that will challenge even seasoned readers, with Transgender Activists and Celebrities being the best title out of the bunch.
