In this timely memoir, author and narrator Akilah Hughes discusses her dreams of being a performer and other aspects of her life. With dry humor, the comedian explains how it felt growing up in Kentucky and at one point being the only African-American girl in a school for gifted children. Hughes uses her voice to enhance her text so that listeners will hear the love she has for her incredible mother. Listeners will be equally touched as Hughes musters the strength to describe her relationship with her father.
