Wick's problems come down to deciding whom she can trust in this conclusion to the trilogy begun with Find Me (2013) and continued in Remember Me (2014). The mess that is Wick's life will be best understood by those who've read the first two titles, but Bernard makes an attempt to clarify as events unfold. Wick is being asked to live in a setting where she will work as a hacker for a company called Looking Glass. The work is overseen by her therapist, and Wick and her teen colleagues live, hack, and attend school all on two floors of a high-rise without being permitted to leave--which makes it a prison as far as Wick is concerned. Separated from her little sister and adopted mother, Wick isn't inclined to trust anyone even though she is told repeatedly this whole arrangement is to keep her safe. Safe from whom and what gradually becomes more and more complicated as the various threads of the plot intertwine. Wick's slow discoveries come after a number of twist and turns. Not much of the hacking makes sense or is particularly crucial to the plot, so this novel will not be of special interest to geeks, despite its high-tech trappings. For die-hard fans of the first two books. (Thriller. 12-16)
