Piroch is a longtime weaver, workshop instructor, and juror whose art has been widely exhibited. This book communicates her love for her craft and is an excellent introduction to weaving, with an emphasis on working with a four-shaft loom. The subjects covered include types of looms, parts of the loom, weaving terminology, weaving tools, weaving structures, yarns and threads, knots, and fabric analysis. A dozen projects for scarves, placements, napkins, towels, and vests are included, as are detailed step-by-step illustrated instructions for warping front-to-back and back-to-front. Scattered throughout are full-color photos of weavers from many cultures demonstrating their art. Certainly, an index would have made this work more valuable as a reference tool, but public libraries will find this a good title to hand to patrons just getting started in hand weaving.
