Herbie Hancock

Grammy Award winner Hancock, jazz musician and composer, provides a detailed, candid, and predominantly joyful examination of his life and creative expression. While the listener is likely to be pleased that Hancock serves as narrator of his own story, the highly intimate experience is compromised by the single tone that pervades. There is essentially no attempt to use variations in pitch, expression, or emotional range. Despite this, the listener is treated to a panoramic whirlwind of visits to recording studios and other creative settings. Life experiences, including addiction and rehabilitation, are also explored. Hancock's Buddhist faith serves as an anchor in this audiobook, which is, despite the absence of music, an entirely jazz-like experience as it is performed in the moment.
