Narrator Hillary Huber uses a wide range of voices to capture the pervasive power of sugar in author Eve Schaub's memoir about her year of living without it. Huber's velvety voice conveys the seductiveness of "the deadly toxic ingredient" that has become part of the culture of modern society. Playing up the sultry qualities in her voice, Huber adds an ironic tone to the author's facetious comments on the "joys" of this substance--so intoxicating that it's almost impossible to escape in spite of its negative influence on our health. John Lee provides a clear and enthusiastic narration of the introduction by David Gillespie, the Australian author of SWEET POISON, who discovered Schaub's project.
