Afflicting approximately five million women nationwide, endometriosis is associated with often painful symptom clusters that make diagnosis difficult. Treatments can be hit-and-miss, and women may suffer for years. Worwood ("The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy") and Stonehouse, a writer specializing in reproductive health issues, have designed an extensive self-help plan for endometriosis sufferers that includes complementary and alternative therapies, diet, exercise, nutritional supplements, and essential oils. The particularly helpful health questionnaires in Chapter 11 serve as a good starting place for a dialog with a physician. Almost too detailed in some places and not detailed enough in others, the book lacks adequate footnotes for claims made, studies quoted, and statistics given; however, the authors have well-placed caveats throughout, such as "Check with your physician before taking any herbal medicines concurrently with prescription medications." (The book is not intended to take the place of advice from practicing physicians.) Recommended for larger public libraries that have well-funded consumer health information centers.Maura Sostack, Virtua West Jersey Hosp. Medical Lib., Voorhees, NJ
