Yet another take on fly-fishing, this time from the author of the best-selling Final Rounds.

Dodson, author of "Final Rounds" (1996), combines travelogue and spiritual soul-searching to produce an interesting hybrid. After Dodson and his wife divorce, he loads daughter Maggie and dog Amos into his pickup for a six-week fishing trip across the U.S. While they drive, fly-fish, and camp, Dodson shares stories with seven-year-old Maggie, whose favorite response is usually, "Why, Daddy?" Dodson tries to provide answers, for her and himself, but they aren't easy to come by. Why did a relative kill herself years ago? Why does an old college pal of Dodson's suffer from crippling depression? And, the big one, why did Dodson and his ex-wife both suddenly realize they were no good together? Dodson's compassionate examination of the human heart brings together lots of good fly-fishing action, local history, and even some literary criticism while Dodson and Maggie fish the streams of Hemingway's youth.
