Reiki is the gentle, systematic channeling of universal healing energy developed in early 20th-century Japan by Mikao Usui and brought to the West by Hawayo Takata. Since Takata's death in 1980, Reiki has significantly grown in worldwide recognition and popularity, reconnected with its Japanese roots, and propagated a host of offshoot systems by various masters of the technique. Quest, who also wrote the authoritative Reiki for Life, objectively acknowledges and explains the conflicting lore and the various derivations while focusing on the core principles and technique fundamentals central to all Reiki practice. She succeeds in delivering a comprehensive and inspirational curriculum that codifies the teaching and practice of Reiki healing. VERDICT The logical presentation and richly detailed how-to content make this the ideal book for any reader interested in this form of alternative healing. From the Reiki master teacher all the way to the neophyte seeker--if you have only one Reiki book on the shelf, this should be it. An instant classic.--Janet Tapper, Univ. of Western States Lib., Portland, OR
