Whether volunteering for a local shelter, attending a peaceful protest, or sharing a Facebook post about Meatless Monday, there's always a way to help animals. Feldstein, director of the population and sustainability program at the Center for Biological Diversity, is at the career end of the advocacy spectrum, but her perspective applies to all levels of interest and effort. She's also a writer for the Huffington Post, and her relatable voice makes getting involved tangible for even the most novice advocates. Each chapter explores small- and large-scale changes that readers can make in their lives, communities, and the world, including "Three things you can do today." The book touches on familiar territory such as plant-based diets, as well as unexpected topics, such as how human (over)population hurts other species. A resources appendix and notes for the research cited are also featured. VERDICT Feldstein's message is intended for a wide audience but may be best suited to readers new to animal welfare issues, though seasoned advocates will find useful information, too. There's no shortage of animals in need, and the author provides countless ways to transform belief into action.--Meagan Storey, Virginia Beach
