Flood reaches a remarkable level of detail and feeling in her pet portraits. Using only colored pencils, she achieves richly layered effects, whether she's depicting the glistening chestnut hide of a horse or the lively eyes of a cat. Chapters cover fur and feather techniques, eyes, facial features, dogs, birds, and "cuddly friends." Flood has had a thriving pet portrait business since 1994 in Washington State and presents workshops throughout the Pacific Northwest. For a looser style of pet portraiture, using colored pencil or watercolors, see Susie Wynne's Draw & Paint Your Pet. Either would be a good addition to general collections.
