Sarah Hamilton is exhausted. She has traveled all the way from Philadelphia, fulfilling her dying father's wish that she go to England and seek out his brother, the earl of Westbrooke, and now she has lost her belongings and landed at an inn with no rooms. But a tipsy gentleman comes to her rescue, and she collapses into oblivion. James Runyon, duke of Alvord, arrives to find a young woman sound asleep in his bed. Certain that his good friend has procured a "friend" for him, but unwilling to wake her, he slips in beside her. Sarah naturally screams when she finds a naked man in her bed. Then, after it's all sorted out, James is only too happy to propose: he's in desperate need of a wife and child to secure his title. But Sarah is too independent a thinker and too familiar with the aristocracy's evil ways to blithely marry a duke. MacKenzie sets a merry dance in motion in this enjoyable Regency romp.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2005, American Library Association.)
