While on a pre-deployment leave, intoxicated Marine officer Tim O'Shay falls in lust with free-spirited hippie-raised Skye McDermott. The two spontaneously decide to grab a quickie Vegas wedding, but the next morning Tim forgets all about the marriage and leaves for his deployment without a word to Skye. She believes Fate brought them together, so she tracks him down and bravely struggles to fit into the disciplined military lifestyle while Tim, usually a control freak, tries to wrap his head around the idea of having done something so dramatic and spontaneous. Will their marriage last and prosper, or is it doomed to catastrophe? Murray, a Marine's wife, puts plenty of authentic flavor in this sensual tale of loving and life in the military. Issues of patriotism, commitment, capitalism, abstinence, abuse of power, and conformity entwine with eroticism and romance for an exciting read. Agent: Emmanuelle Morgen, Judith Ehrlich Literary Management.

Always-in-control marine captain Timothy O'Shay gets drunk on leave with friends in Las Vegas and marries Skye McDermott after a moment of instant, fateful recognition at the craps table and a spectacular night of sex. Unfortunately, when he sobers up back at his unit, all he remembers is the great sex, and he feels guilty for sneaking out on Skye. She tracks him down, however, and they decide to try to make the marriage work, although with his upbringing in a three-generation military family and hers in a hippie commune, that decision seems doomed. While it's a slow starter, Murray's tale of the attempted transformation of a free spirit into a military wife is fun to read, and Tim's realization that he loves Skye as she is is satisfying. Her first encounter with his parents, who have not been told about the wedding, is pretty hilarious, too. While the premise seems preposterous, the story turns out to be entertaining, thanks to Murray's insights into the attraction of opposites.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2012, American Library Association.)
