Kat Lind, an American living in London, is feeling vulnerable. Her mother has just died; her husband is out of the country on a business trip; her son is visiting his grandparents in the states. On impulse, she attends an art exhibit by Daniel Blake, a painter whom she met and loved 20 years before while studying in Paris, an affair that ended badly. To her surprise, the show is filled with paintings of a young Kat, including one titled Blue Bath. Although Kat is happily married, the paintings bring back painful yet wonderful memories, and she is drawn back to the artist. As the attraction rekindles, Kat vividly recalls Daniel's studio and the love they shared. (The descriptions of the artist at work are so intense that readers will almost smell the paint). When Kat's husband returns, she must face life-altering decisions and events. Set in London and Paris, Water-Sayer's romantic debut novel is filled with lush settings, sensuous details, and poignant events. Readers will be wholly involved with Kat's heartbreaking dilemma.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2016, American Library Association.)
