Georgia Fellowes, a down-to-earth large animal vet, rarely leaves upstate New York, but her best friend coaxes her to visit Wellington and meet his saddle-making boyfriend. There she falls into a flirtation with moody, gorgeous polo player Alejandro Del Campo. He's troubled by the behavior of his teenaged daughter and trying not to distract himself from the game by pursuing romance; when he hires Georgia after she proves herself better than the alcoholic running the team's stables, he plans to keep it strictly business. But Alejandro ultimately can't keep his hands off her. The book's primary focus is wealth pornâexpensive parties, high fashion, and beautiful people exhibiting traditionally gendered behaviorâbut significant time is also spent discussing splendid horses, the joy of riding, and the way polo is played. This flashy, superficial, jet-setting world is not for her, but the horses are wonderful, and Georgia can't help being attracted to the virile, conflicted Alejandro Del Campo. VERDICT Energetic and rife with polo detail, superb horses, and a bit of machismo, this perfect book for the beach is the first of a series written under the aegis of Argentine polo star Nacho Figueras. He is the captain of the Black Watch Polo Team and divides his time between Argentina and Miami, FL. Whitman lives in New York's Hudson Valley.
