The Rector's Wife

Never a typical rector's wife, Anna Bouverie is at least accepted by the parish until she goes to work in a supermarket, achieving an independent income and a sense of self-worth despite her husband's rage and the town's disapproval. Reader Nadia May beautifully portrays Anna and the myriad of people in her life--the breathy voice of her daughter, the dramatic affectations of her mother (the retired stage actress), and each of the three men who becomes enchanted with Anna. May artfully weaves together personalities, emotions and dialects. May, like Anna, speaks calmly, with assurance and strength even in her most desperate moments.
