Feinberg (Fight Back with Joy) is a popular Evangelical Christian writer and speaker, who, from the start of this latest book, enthuses about culinary adventures. She's all about appetites--spiritual as well as physical and relational. Food metaphors abound--those who hunger for power, each of us as a little grain of salt, the leaven within us. Food becomes the means to offer spiritual reflections on common biblical dietary items such as fish, bread, salt, and lamb. Throughout, she provides Scriptural insights as well as appealing recipes reflective of these items, including barley bread, roasted figs, brussels sprouts, and fig-oil tapenade, among others. Her "spiritual/culinary pilgrimage" is heavily footnoted with equal amounts of personal asides and academic references, concluding that God is the ultimate food source (metaphorically as well as spiritually). VERDICT Feinberg's journey of food is in reality a journey of faith, in which good meals serve as the medium for spiritual conversion, resulting in recipes for foodies and nourishment for the faithful.--Sandra Collins, Byzantine Catholic Seminary Lib., Pittsburgh
