This updated and revised version of a classic photography how-to incorporates some digital photography tips that the original, published in 1988, could not have dreamed of. Tools and technical details are mostly beside the point of the guide, however. Peterson's (founder, the Bryan Peterson Sch. of Photography; Understanding Exposure) aim is to help readers take more striking photographs. To accomplish this, he believes, photographers need to learn--or relearn--to see. Complacency is the enemy of creativity and readers are challenged to shake up their routines and expectations through a series of exercises on design elements, composition, camera lenses, light, and using Photoshop. The brief and open-ended exercises include examples of a standard approach to the subject and a much more dynamic way to photograph. VERDICT This book will help readers of all ability levels to discover new ways of approaching and presenting their subjects.
