In the new position, he can finally let his fur flag fly and spend meaningful time around fellow supernaturals. Jestina Ridley is a human STAT agent assigned to Jake’s team and bad experiences with supernatural threats in her past have left her with a wariness of werewolves. Despite a rocky start to their relationship, attraction smolders between them as they track a dangerous supernatural entity from the U.S. to the U.K. and to the lushly described shores of French Guiana. Over-the-top situations lead to intricately choreographed action sequences, lending the novel the feel of a delightfully ludicrous cinematic thriller. Tyler teases more fun to come in future installments with the introduction of many complex secondary characters, among them Caleb, an omega werewolf with control issues. After members of her Special Threat Assessment Team (STAT) are attacked and killed by unknown creatures while investigating a kidnapping, sole survivor Jestina Ridley is emotionally shaken and hard-pressed to trust the new STAT team to which she is assigned, especially given the fact that some of her new crew are werewolves. The supernatural community is no longer hiding in the shadows, and in order to keep the peace, Jake Huang, alpha werewolf and former Navy SEAL, has been assigned the task of leading a new pack to discover who or what is behind the original kidnappings and the deaths of Jes's former teammates. As the heat intensifies between Jes and Jake, she wonders if she can truly trust the pack leader with both her life and her heart. VERDICT This first installment in Tyler's new series gives a good introduction to members of the newly formed team.
