Charlotte Greene is crushed when Tristan Devine, the man she has adored for years, chooses another as his potential bride at the Bride Hunt Ball. She is also amazed to be rescued from total embarrassment by the notorious rake, Adam Faramond, the Earl of Rothbury. Charlotte thinks Adam finds her too painfully shy to be genuinely interested in her-while Adam (who has long been attracted to Charlotte) believes she would never marry anyone as scandal-ridden as he. Clever chapter headings and witty banter add to this lively romance that nicely continues the story begun in Parker's At the Bride Hunt Ball.
