Crush returns readers to fictitious Holiday, Tex., to witness the exploits of its good-natured residents in the witty third Holiday, Texas contemporary (after Cowboy Christmas Jubilee, 2018). Innocent Dixie King has had a crush on Presley Walker since childhood, but her shy disposition and her strict preacher father prevented her from acting on it. Known playboy Presley has never met a woman he couldn’t charm, but Dixie is looking for more than a one-night stand. Presley secretly harbors big dreams and fears that his reputation as a jokester means no one will take him seriously. When he and Dixie partner up to look after the Rambling Rose, the town’s only honky-tonk, he gets the chance to prove he’s trustworthy and capable. Dealing with loads of tourists, an ornery boar, and endangered horned toads keeps their hands full; things get even stickier when a long-gone former resident with a grudge comes back for vengeance. Dixie and Presley have good chemistry, and Dixie’s grandma, Genie, and best friend, Maybelle, steal the show.
