Though some of the pleasurable shock has worn off from the first volume collecting the dual Archie Marries Veronica/Archie Marries Betty multiverse comics, this is still a darn good soap opera. The Veronica story is a doozy: her father's company has charged Reggie with bribery and corruption, and if he's not cleared, he'll land in prison. In the Betty universe, she and Arch retreat from New York to become teachers at Riverdale High and find themselves on the other end of teen mischief. Melancholy remains this collection's best weapon, but an emerging fantasy element promises a new direction.
