Meet Poppy Denby, a curious girl with an adventurous spirit. Traveling to London to live with her paraplegic aunt, she lands a job as an editorial assistant at a newspaper. Poppy's intelligence and outspoken nature soon causes a stir in her first staff meeting. It is 1920, after all. When Bert, a reporter covering a hot story, jumps to his death (or was he pushed?) in the foyer of the newspaper's building, Poppy gets assigned to the story that Bert was writing until his unfortunate demise. Poppy learns that it can be very exciting having a "real" job as an investigative reporter. It can also be murder. VERDICT This light mystery, the first entry in a new cozy historical series by the author of The Peace Garden, is fast paced, humorous, and just plain fun. Poppy is bright and always scheming new ways to get the scoop. Mystery fans who enjoy Carola Dunn's "Daisy Dalrymple" series, will relish Poppy's adventures.
