DOGO Books
namers - This was such a fun read! YOU"RE INVITED is about four best friends (Vi, Becca, Sadie and Lauren) who start a party planning business and the adventures/obstacles that they face. I loved the personalities of all of the girls. Sometimes when I read a book with multiple narrations, I find one that I really love and may speed through the others to get back to that character. That wasn't the case here. Each of the girls' chapters were unique and I wanted to know what was happening with each of them. The setting for the book was great! It was a near the beach, which is place that I would love to go on vacation. And I loved reading about each of the theme parties the girls planned...they are so creative, and sounded super fun. I highly recommend this book, and can't wait for the second book to come out.

Grades 5-8 After playing a part in a disastrous wedding, Sadie has been let go from her mom's party planning business. To regain her mother's respect, she decides to start her own party business, RSVP, with three friends. This new endeavor teaches each girl to step outside her comfort zone: boy-crazy Becca spends more time on her music, tomboy Vi finds it's okay to go girly, and Lauren puts down the SAT prep books and has some fun. Most of all, Sadie learns the meaning of friendship and how to be an entrepreneur. This is the best kind of adolescent fantasyenough independence to be yourself, but enough support, in the form of friends, to take risks. The chapters alternate with each girl playing narrator, and the text sounds very today, which will make this even more relatable. For more girls with a business mind, direct readers to The Teashop Girls, by Laura Schaefer (2008), and My Life in Pink and Green, by Lisa Greenwald (2009).(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2015, American Library Association.)
