Slip-stitch knitting--where yarn loops are intentionally slipped from one needle to another without knitting or purling--is used for a variety of effects, including faux stranded colorwork and textured knits. Goberstein and Merchant-Dest, who previously collaborated on The Art of Seamless Knitting, explore this diverse technique through a series of stitch, garment, and accessory patterns. The authors divide the collection by type of slip-stitch pattern--traditional (including mosaic knitting), woven, fancy (including faux lace and cables), and reversible knits. Each section includes a brief stitch dictionary featuring knitted swatches with written and charted instructions, followed by a selection of garment and accessory patterns featuring slip-stitch patterns. The designs highlight the versatility of this simple technique, and the stitch dictionaries provide an array of options for knitters interested in designing their own slip-stitch knits. VERDICT Knitters curious about exploring new techniques will enjoy this guide to slip-stitch knitting.
