The latest guide in this series focuses on color. A simple, short introductory section reviews the fundamentals of color theory such as hue, value, intensity, and complementary colors and provides a list of tools and materials to get the reader started. The bulk of the book consists of 52 step-by-step exercises that will expand the reader's understanding of color. The lessons are organized by color, with projects highlighting various techniques, styles, and media in chapters focusing upon palettes predominant in red, yellow, blue, green, and violet. Readers can practice their painting and collage skills here as well as experiment with color through three-dimensional work, book making, and installation. Forman, an experienced artist, instructor at the Rhode Island School of Design, and color theory expert, emphasizes process over product and the value of creative practice. The author's work and that of other artists is included throughout to illustrate concepts discussed in the lessons. VERDICT All visually creative readers can enhance their artwork by developing and improving their color skills with this engaging guide.
