The Essential Vedanta

This volume seeks to facilitate the study of Advaita Vedanta in its classical form as this tradition of thought actually functioned in Indian culture. The discussion is easy to follow, though it does require familiarity with Hindu Scriptures. Deutsch and Dalvi have updated the original 1971 edition, making scholarly emendations, adding more selections from the Upanishads, and including new material from Sriharsa. Scholars and philosophers probing major Sanskrit writings and the Advaita Vedanta in India prior to 1950 will find much for interpolation and discussion. Those with a basic understanding of the Hindu Scriptures will find much to consider, and those seeking an interfaith understanding will appreciate the editors' grasp of other world religions.
