This uninspired audio compilation of Christian quotes and passages—the source materials include everything from the Bible to the works of notable religious thinkers such as Billy Graham and Thomas Merton—offers up an entry for each day of the year. Unfortunately, Wayne Shepherd’s clear narration is also monotonous, even when he’s enthusing about the importance of loving God. Some variation of delivery would have greatly improved his performance, especially as the book’s entries cover a range of Christian subjects—from spiritual kinship to being considerate toward others. While these passages are meant to inspire, Shepherd’s reading fails to engage listeners—and at times the narrator himself sounds somewhat bored. A Worthy hardcover.
