This highly approachable art technique reference resource is aimed at both beginners who want to build foundational skills and more experienced artists who may use it to explore new techniques. The generous font and large size make it handy for referring to at the easel or drawing table and durable over the course of many library loans. Organized around broad categories of fundamentals, drawing, painting, color basics, and mixed media, it need not be read linearly. Over 100 traditional strategies are demonstrated with illustrations and explained with clear, sequential text. Photos of tools and materials augment demonstrations. Digital media is beyond the scope of this guide and, unfortunately, it lacks an index. VERDICT Readers of all skill levels can utilize this solid guide to analog art technique.
