Quest for the Nautilus

Gr 5-8-With Gabriel Nemo having proven himself a capable captain, this second installment in the series finds Gabriel and his crew, Misty and Peter, attending the prestigious Nemo Institute by day and conducting missions aboard the submarine Obscure in their free time. However, a break-in at the Institute results in a race against the clock to locate the long-lost submarine of Captain Nemo, the Nautilus, in order to save Gabriel's kidnapped mother. With only 100 hours and a whole ocean to scour, Gabriel must rely on his friends, and a few cryptic clues, to track down the hidden ship. Once again, Henderson has readers diving into the ocean's depths on an adventure-packed quest with Gabriel and his crew. It's fantastic to see a story in which friends not only communicate well but also help one another "work the problem" as issues arise on their search for the infamous Nautilus. Henderson introduces submarine slang and oceanography tidbits without going overboard in explanation. The story's comedic moments are satisfying. VERDICT Gabriel and his crew will please seafaring science nerd or anyone seeking a new group of characters to love.-Emily Walker, Lisle Library District, IL
