PreS-Gr 1-Following on the heels of other recently discovered manuscripts by classic picture book creators (Margaret Wise Brown, Dr. Seuss), Don Freeman, the creator of Corduroy, left behind artwork that his wife, Lydia Freeman, wanted to use for another children's book. A result of a collaboration with her colleague and close friend Linda Zuckerman, this simple, elegant book encourages children to explore the world around them. Light-hued watercolor art reminiscent of the work of Ludwig Bemelmans will pull readers in as they discover people, places, and things that make the world abundant with joy. Spot art, spreads, and sharp vignettes provide an impressionist style that will draw curious readers along on their journey. The title page opens up with a young child gazing out his window, and the narrator continues to ask the reader, "What do you see when you look outside?" The ample white space paired with short, rhythmic text will make this imaginative story come to life for inquisitive readers.
