Grades 1-3 Katie Fry is good at finding clues and solving mysteries. When the mailman passes her roadside detective stand, he tips her off that there's a lost-looking kitten in the park. By using her big brain and ability to talk to animals, Katie manages to track down the kitten's missing collar and find its address, ensuring that Sherlock the kitten doesn't stay lost for long. This Level 2 reader is divided into four chapters that feature bold, colorful illustrations and introduce developing readers to longer sentences and new vocabulary. Though the story is light, readers will be drawn to Katie, a chipper African American girl who wields her smarts along with her magnifying glass, notebook, and pencil.
