Field Trip

Narrators Mike Chamberlain and John H. Mayer return for another Duffy father-and-son adventure. Their familiarity with the characters, both human and canine, is comfortable and genuine. Kids will love the short vignettes of the two family dogs, older Atticus and exuberant puppy Conor, which are interspersed in the story. Atticus often ruminates glumly on the trials of growing old and dealing with an unruly pup. The voices used for the dogs match human expectations of dog behavior to a tee. Secondary characters Brig and Holly are portrayed expertly and provide much of the silliness and offbeat humor that makes Paulsen's work a popular family choice.
