Gr 4-7 -In this sequel to "The Secret of Sentinel Rock "(Coteau, 1996), Emily Bradford is upset because her mother is selling her recently deceased grandmother's house, which has been in the family for generations. In addition, Emily is trying to come to terms with her parents' divorce. She finds her special stone that enables her to time travel and watches the family build her grandmother's house. This only fuels her determination to somehow keep it from being sold. Although readers can follow the story without having read the previous volume, many of the references and emotional ties to the characters are lost without that knowledge. The story and the characters are not exceptional, but the protagonist is a believable young teen constantly fluctuating between extremes of emotions, seeming both mature and immature at the same time. The ending is a bit predictable and Emily's sudden maturity is rather a stretch, but fans of the -American Girl - books and -History Mysteries - (both Pleasant Co) will enjoy it." -Saleena L.
