Principal for the Day

Gr 2-3-Frannie Miller and all of her fantabulousness is back in the latest title (Grosset, 2011) in Stern's chapter-book series. Winning the "Principal for the Day" essay contest is a dream come true for a girl who salivates at the sight of staplers and swivel chairs. When Frannie's composition trumps the others, she dons her father's black-framed glasses and borrows his briefcase. She eagerly embraces her position as principal, with "Frankly" as her professional name. When Principal Wilkins explains the "three strikes" rule, listeners will anticipate a rocky day for trouble magnet Frannie. Her naivete and curiosity, though endearing, guarantee mischief and misunderstandings. The child's penchant for hyperbole is charming and her vocabulary is inventive. Narrator Michele O. Medlin's distinctive voice is quirky and delightful, perfectly mirroring Frankly's personality.
