Dixie and the Class Treat

PreS-Gr 1-Just the right amount of drama will keep beginning readers engaged in this simple school story. When Emma and her mom prepare oatmeal spice cookies for a class snack, their dog, Daisy, bumps into the table, turning over the ingredients. Unbeknown to the bakers, the spices get switched during cleanup, and the tasty-looking treats are not tasty at all. Dixie saves the day by once again creating disarray. This time she knocks over the treat bags in the classroom before snack time. The story ends on a reassuring note, with Emma's mom there to present a fresh batch of cookies. Appropriately sized font and plenty of illustrations to match the action make this title a solid choice where early readers are in demand.-Gloria Koster, West School, New Canaan, CT
